Creating a Cutting Garden with Becky Crowley - Half Day Course
Learn how to plan and grow your own ornamental cutting garden, with Raby’s walled garden assistant head gardener, Becky Crowley. This half day workshop will give you inspiration, ideas and practical advice to help you grow beautiful seasonal flowers for cutting.
Becky will show you how to plan your garden for both beauty and productivity. She’ll give an overview of the cutting garden she has designed here at Raby Castle with Luciano Giubbilei, and draw on her previous experience as a cut flower grower at Chatsworth House and the Floret Flower Farm in Washington state. She will share her planning methods and tips for designing your own unique cutting garden.
You’ll learn about the practicalities of laying out your growing space and how to achieve a succession of flowers throughout the year. She’ll advise on the tasks to do now and walk you through key tasks for each season to ensure you have a clear idea of what you can do when for a year filled with flowers.
This session will combine a presentation indoors with time out in the cutting garden and glasshouse, to look at what’s growing and the key jobs of the season. And of course there’ll be time to ask your own questions too.
Although Becky has worked on several large-scale projects, she also has experience growing in her own small gardens in challenging situations. This contrast of experience should make this workshop enjoyable and relevant to you no matter what type of garden you have. Becky is passionate about gardening in a thoughtful way, using organic principles to create gardens that are welcoming and filled with life. She is keen to share all that she knows to help others create their own beautiful and productive flower gardens.
