Exploring the Archives: Raby and the Railways
Coinciding with our new temporary exhibition ‘Coal, Canals and Carriages,’ join our Archivist for a special session which tunnels into maps, plans and documents which bring to life the history of the estate's connections to the railways and transport.
From unique plans for a system of canals by noted surveyor Jeremiah Dixon and proposals for railway lines across the country, to correspondence detailing the use of trains for transporting goods and for travelling the globe, this is a unique opportunity to delve deeper into some of the castle’s historic collections and better understand Raby estate's role in railway development.
